Monthly TournamentsEach season consists of eleven NLHE freeze out bounty tournaments usually played on a Saturday mid- to late month. Tournaments can seat up to 20 players at a time on 2 tables. Tournament registration at
www.wphpl.club under the 'EVENTS' tab typically opens 1-2 weeks prior to the scheduled date as announced via email from
chuck@wphpl.club.
The first 20 registrations are guaranteed a seat if present by game start time. Subsequent registrations will start a wait list. Empty seats may be filled by players present and ready to sit up to the end of the 1st break. Priority to take empty seats available at game start time:
1. Next on the registration wait list
2. Player with a confirmed registration in order of registration (e.g. registered but arrived late).
3. Anyone else goes to the end of the wait list on arrival.
No-Shows: A player registered for a seat who does not show up without timely informing the TD will be placed on the end of the Wait List the next time they register. A player with multiple no-shows may be suspended from one or more tournaments or removed from membership at the TD’s discretion.
The TD uses
“The Tournament Director” software version 3.7.2, copyright Corey Cooper 2004-2020 (
TTDS) to run tournaments.
TTDS has been programmed for WPH Poker League blinds, breaks, clock, prizes, bounties and points.
TTDS provides additional tools such as tournament results, player stats, and suggesting randomized starting seat assignments and player movement to balance tables.
Buy-in $100 for the tournament (cash only). No rebuys or add-ons.
Allocation:
$70 to the prize pool
$10 to the bounty pool
$20 toward the Annual Championship Tournament and Player of the Year pools
One-time players $80 buy in: a person not expecting to participate in the ACT such as a visiting friend or relative playing only once, or twice, may be forgiven the amount that would go toward the end of the year. However, if that player plays more than twice in the season they would owe the past forgiven amount.
Players are encouraged to participate in a 50/50 Raffle to help cover host/TD expenses while maintaining equal buy in for all players. Raffle tickets may be purchased prior to the drawing at the end of the first break: $20 for 3 tickets, or $10 for 1 ticket. 50% of the raffle pool goes to the winning ticket; the other half to the host/TD.
Players should arrive starting at 6:00 PM. Please do not arrive prior to that. Upon arrival players buy in and receive 18,000 in tournament chips, a red Bounty Chip, and a blue BS chip.
Bounty pool: Each player will receive a special red WPH Bounty chip. When a player is knocked out that player’s bounty chip goes to the winner of the pot. Each bounty chip may be redeemed for $10 prior to departure. In the case of a chopped side pot the bounty will be chopped. The winner of the tournament earns $10 by retaining their bounty chip.
When all players have bought in, the
TTDS software will randomly assign seats. The TD may reassign a few seats for tournament management and accommodations.
Players take seats at 6:25 PM.
CARDS IN THE AIR 6:30.
The deal passes around with the button. Whomever is dealing is responsible for monitoring the hand including betting, pots, making change, determining winning hands, and awarding the pot. At the dealer's discretion, other players may assist with raking chips, collecting cards, etc. Shuffling goes behind the button. The last dealer before the break should assure the next button position is set and may assist chipping up.
20 minute blind levels with 80 minutes between breaks. Some players like longer breaks to eat, socialize, etc. while others want to get back to the action. The first break is longer but
the clock will not pause. Any break can be shortened if all players are seated.
Points: Monthly points are earned according to the formula:
round(sum(5*sqrt(
N)/sqrt(
R))+5*sqrt(
N)/sqrt(
R)-2*sum(
R-
N),0)+2
Kwhere
N is the number of entries,
R is each player’s finishing rank, and
K is the number of knock outs. The result is that the first player busting out gets 10 points, then increase incrementally, then ramp up more dramatically for top finishers. Points ramp up more significantly when there are more entries. See photos showing points without bounties.
Accumulated points determine ranking in the tournament season for Player of the Year and qualifying for the Annual Championship Tournament. Accumulated monthly earnings (irrespective of chops) will be used to break any ties in points standing.
Chops: Final players who opt to chop the prize pool must do so in a manner that defines place standing for points; points may not be negotiated. Accumulated winnings will reflect earned prize amounts irrespective of chops.
Cash Games: Optional cash games will end 1 hour after the end of the tournament at the discretion of the host.
